Welcome to SHPE INDIANA PDF Print E-mail

Our mission is to serve as role models, foster education among Hispanics and be the source of Hispanic Scientific and Engineering talent in Indiana.

The Society of Hispanic Professional  Engineers SHPE was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. The objective was to create a national organization of engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.

In the same manner, with the same mission and following the example of our founding padres, a group of successful Hispanic professionals across the state of Indiana founded SHPE Indiana on June 30, 2006.

SHPE Indiana members receive the benefits of becoming members of the most prestigious scientific and engineering Hispanic professional organization, business networking, discounts to top notch educational and professional seminars, career development workshops as well as access to a network of leading companies searching for top Hispanic professional talent and involvement to community events.

We are a group of successful professionals wanting to make a difference with the growing Hispanic community in the state of Indiana. We work with young students and do believe that education continues to be the easy path to the American dream.

Mapping Education Towards Achievement:
8th Annual Hispanic Post-Secondary Education Workshop

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the Indiana Department of Education, and Ivy Tech Community College will sponsor our eighth annual workshop geared toward informing Hispanic high school students about post-secondary education. The M.E.T.A.: Mapping Education Towards Achievement workshop will take place on Friday, October 3, 2008 on the IUPUI campus. Schools may arrange to have Hispanic students attend this workshop as a field trip offered by their schools. This event is open to Hispanic high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. All schools in the Indianapolis area are invited to participate, but we will be limited to a total of 300 students.

Through the workshop, META students participate in two career path sessions presented by Hispanic professionals from various fields. Presenters share information with students about how their high school and college education has contributed to their career success. META students also have the opportunity to receive information about higher education admissions, financial aid, and scholarships as well as information about immigration law.
