Welcome to SHPE INDIANA Our mission is to serve as role models, foster education among Hispanics and be the source of Hispanic Scientific and Engineering talent in Indiana. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. The objective was to create a national organization of engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. In the same manner, with the same mission and following the example of our founding padres, a group of successful Hispanic professionals across the state of Indiana founded on June 30, 2006. SHPE Indiana receive the benefits of becoming members of the most prestigious scientific and engineering Hispanic professional organization, business networking, discounts to top notch educational and professional seminars, career development workshops as well as access to a network of leading companies searching for top Hispanic professional talent and involvement to community events. We are a group of successful professionals wanting to make a difference with the growing Hispanic community in the state of Indiana. We work with young students and do believe that continues to be the easy path to the Americandream

Dear SHPE-Indiana Members and Friends, It is with great pleasure that I announce that SHPE National Board of Directors (NBOD) selected the city of Indianapolis to host its national conference in 2013!!. This effort was led by Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association and was mainly supported by SHPE-Indiana Professional Chapter, Cummins Incorporated, Indianapolis Westin Hotel and Indianapolis Marriott Downtown.
Dr. France Cordova President of Purdue University, the first Hispanic female to lead a major US university, also wrote a letter of support to SHPE NBOD. Many Presidents of Region 6 Professional Chapters also showed their support by writing letters encouraged by Region 6 Vice-President, Adriana Ocampo.
The presentation to the SHPE NBOD highlighted the strong engineering education being offered by Indiana universities, the many programs the SHPE-Indiana Professional Chapter creates and supports, the involvement of our universities student chapters and the significant and supportive corporate presence. Did you know that more than five 500 fortune companies are headquartered in Indiana?
I would like to invite you to celebrate this accomplishment with us by attending our general meeting Thursday June 18 from 7 to 9 pm at Adobo's Grill in downtown Indianapolis but mainly by supporting your SHPE-Indiana Professional Chapter leadership to be able to create more educational programs that focus on engineering, offer professional development to our members and support our student chapters. We have a big challenge and a lot of work ahead of us. Lets validate to the attendees of SHPE National Conference in 2013 the great place Indiana is to live, our great Hispanic community but mainly how much we support the development and growth of our professional engineers and our students.
I thank you all for your support.
Lourdes Palacio SHPE-Indiana Professional Chapter President |
