Purdue University is seeking a Software Engineer to be a part of developing the HUBzero platform used to create dynamic web sites that connect scientific communities in research and educational activities, creating a unique blend of high-performance computing and social networking. HUBzero sites combine powerful Web 2.0 concepts with a middleware that provides instant access to interactive simulation tools. These tools are not just Java applets, but real research codes that can access TeraGrid, the Open Science Grid, and other national Grid computing resources.
The Software Engineer will work with science/engineering experts around the world to build web software and middleware for scientific research, education, and collaboration. Participate in the design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance of software created in a research environment under the direction of a lead/senior software engineer. Work within a team environment to gather requirements, participate in design reviews, implement and/or integrate new functionality, and assist with quality assurance. Create documentation, help train operational staff to provide support, and provide some level of direct support to end users.

| Qualifications |
Required: Bachelor's degree and three years of research and development experience with emphasis on user-oriented software development involving software engineering skills for scientific software applications (consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience); Skills programming with C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Tcl/Tk; Object-oriented design and development skills; Knowledge of source code control systems, automated build systems, regression testing techniques, and other standard software engineering practices; Excellent communication skills.
