Job Description  
The Network Engineer will maintain University data network functionality at optimum performance with minimal disruptions of service. Plan, design, implement, and install specialized network switching equipment. Utilize network monitoring tools to analyze usage trends, and forecast potential problems. Identify network outages and determine required problem resolution, including outage and maintenance notifications. Trouble-shoot, evaluate and repair malfunctioning network equipment, both fiber optic and electronic.
Minimum Requirments:
 
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years experience with large, switched IP networks.
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
  • Experience with Cisco products.
  • Knowledge of Cisco IOS and wireless networks.
  • Ability to problem solve necessary.
  • Ability to analyze network events as they occur and recommend appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and problems in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally.

Preferred:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related technical field.
  • Experience with QOS protocols.
  • Network monitoring experience.
